Economic Outlook

Market Strategy

Zacks Chief Equity Strategist, John Blank PhD., publishes this monthly report that provides the Zacks forecasts for all major asset classes and the details of Zacks outlook. This report is derived from a number of resources to come up with the individual asset class forecasts, including (a) the Zacks proprietary models; (b) input from the Zacks investment committee comprised of, John Blank, Ben and Mitch Zacks, senior portfolio managers at Zacks Investment Management, Sheraz Mian, the Director of Research, and the full team of stock strategists at Zacks.com; (c) reviewing material produced by Zacks consulting economists at Macroeconomic Advisors, Consensus Economics, and San Francisco Fed "Fed Views" (d) carrying out a Zacks survey of sell-side investment strategists and buy-side chief investment officers (CIO). All this information is then integrated to arrive at these Zacks Forecasts.

Model Portfolio

The Zacks Investment Committee has maintained a model portfolio since 1996. This portfolio, called the Zacks Focus List, is designed for long-term investors and reflects the opinions of Zacks analysts and the outlook of the Zacks Investment Committee. It is published weekly if there are any additions or deletions to the portfolio from the previous week.

Bull and Bear of the Day

Every day, Zacks Equity Research selects two stocks from the Zacks research universe that are rated Strong Buy or Buy (Bull) or rated Sell or Strong Sell (Bear) and have been reaffirmed, upgraded or downgraded usually within the last 24 business hours. These stocks are likely to outperform (Bull) or underperform (Bear) the market over the next 1 to 3 months as a result of their earnings estimate revisions.

Industry Outlook

Daily commentary from senior research analysts about their industry outlook and highlighting of specific stock opportunities and weaknesses within their universe of coverage.

Stock Research Reports

Analyst Reports contain the Zacks Rank of either a Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell or Strong Sell, as well as their in-depth written description on the company. These reports can range from 7 to 10 pages on the individual stock, or simply as many pages as necessary to impart why to buy, hold, or sell the stock. The Strong Buy and Buy rated stocks will have a Target Price, a valuation section, and all reports have a Style Score for Growth, Value and Momentum.

Zacks Investment Research is a Chicago-based research and money management firm founded in 1978 to provide institutional investors with quantitative models designed to predict stock prices for US companies. The product line has expanded over the years to provide a wide range of investment-related information services and software tools to individual investors.

Methodology

Our stock research methodology represents a blend of quantitative and fundamental research, with analyst-written research reports on approximately 960 stocks and quantitatively-driven one-page Snapshot reports on an additional 2,600 stocks. At the core of our rating system is the Zacks Rank, which reflects estimate revisions momentum and earnings surprises.

We allow the senior analysts the ability to over-ride the Zacks Rank for some stocks in their coverage to reflect their understanding of company/industry fundamentals. The analysts use their industry/sector knowledge, company financial reports, trade press and other details such as conference calls (or transcripts of calls) in making their calls and writing the research reports.

A new addition to the Zacks Equity Research Reports is the Zacks Style Score, which provides an additional tool for investors to sort through the large number of Zacks Rank 1 and 2 stocks at any time based on one or more of the Value, Growth and Momentum investment styles. The idea is to help investors pick the most appropriate Zacks Rank stocks based on their individual stock-picking preferences. The individual A, B, C, D, E or F Style Score for each stock results from a back-tested evaluation process that uses the metrics with the most predictive value for each style. The top-rated stocks combine Zacks Rank of 1 or 2 with Style Scores of A or B.

Coverage

A staff of 78 analysts provide continuous coverage for a universe of 960 US and Canadian traded stocks and NYSE traded ADRs. The universe includes the S&P 500 and approximately 450 of the next largest market cap and widely held stocks. Analysts are organized by industry, which gives them keen insight to developments that affect company profits and stock performance. An additional 2,600 stocks are covered by Zacks Rank and generate model-driven snapshot research reports.
