How Active Tech ETF TTEQ Almost Doubled AUM in 3 Months

Tech ETF investing has come a long way from the days of tech sector mutual funds in the early aughts. The ETF wrapper’s flexibility, transparency, and tradability have made it a great tool for asset managers innovating and improving on the tech fund template. The active T. Rowe Price Technology ETF (TTEQ ) represents perhaps the strongest fund to join that category in recent years.Key Takeaways: TTEQ’s active tech ETF approach has helped it return 32.9% YTD. The fund, which charges a 63 bps fee, invests in the innovative tech beyond passive index limits. The strategy’s AUM grew by nearly $200 million in the last three months, per ETF Database data. TTEQ charges 63 basis point (bps) to actively invest in a mix of innovative and foundational tech companies companies across categories. Managed by T. Rowe Price manager Dom Rizzo, the strategy has produced robust returns YTD. The active tech ETF has returned 32.9% YTD, according to ETF Database data. That has outperformed the fund’s benchmark YTD. Together, that has helped the strategy lift its AUM significantly. The active tech ETF added just under $189 million in net inflows over the last three months. That contributed much to its overall $191 million AUM growth in that time on net, bringing the fund to its current $429 million AUM, per ETF Database data. That has seen the fund almost double its AUM in that time. TTEQ actively invests in large-cap tech firms across global markets. Rather than strictly sticking to sector label limits, it can also invest in technology-driven companies that may sit outside of passive tech indexes. And unlike the broad-based Nasdaq 100, which some investors use for a loose form of tech exposure, TTEQ provides a true technology option. Led by Rizzo, the ETF’s team looks to fundamental research into stock valuation and share price appreciation. It has even invested in OpenAI via private investment prior to its IPO. See more: T. TTEQ’s flexibility and focus on rising names makes it an intriguing complement to core equity strategies. Its active remit helps it lean into firms poised to break out — sometimes even before they go public. Taken together, the strategy represents a leading candidate for adding tech ETF exposure in many portfolios. For more news, information, and analysis, visit our Active ETF Content Hub.
