Prepare for AI Spending Shifts; Grab Some Income With This ETF

There’s plenty on the minds of technology investors this year. One of the preeminent issues is the extent to which large- and megacap hyperscalers are spending on their AI ambitions. It’s a good news/bad news scenario for market participants engaged with pure-beta ETFs tracking the Nasdaq-100 Index (NDX). That’s because those funds are heavily allocated to both AI enablers and adopters. What those funds are not are big sources of income. However, the NEOS Nasdaq-100 High Income ETF (QQQI A) delivers significant Nasdaq-100-linked income while positioning investors to both survive the current era of AI spending headlines and thrive when those expenditures shift or even decline in the future. QQQI recently topped $15 billion in assets under management. Yet it isn’t just one of the most popular covered -call ETFs. It’s an award-winning actively managed fund that excels at a concept many of its higher-yield options-based rivals struggle with: generating credible upside. Since inception, QQQI gained 57.3%. It’s captured a substantial portion of NDX’s gains over that period.Good Time to Make a QQQI QueryQQQI is an income-first fund offering some upside participation. So it may be worth examining today by investors concerned by the massive expenditures laid out by AI hyperscalers. “For now, however, spending on computing resources has only strengthened and future expectations have even increased,” observed BNP Paribas. “For as long as this persists the various components of AI infrastructure should continue to experience impressive fundamental growth; but they are precariously dependent on this dynamic, which becomes increasingly difficult to improve upon.” Due to the Nasdaq-100’s technology breadth — the index touches many technology sector bases — QQQI may be appealing to long-term investors. That’s because some experts believe a time will come when AI spending shifts to other segments. Those include optics and storage, among others. “Cloud service providers play a critical role that we believe is underappreciated by investors who are focused on the capital requirements and not seeing the early positive signs of strong returns on invested capital,” added BNP Paribas. “Infrastructure software, including software development tools, database platforms, and cybersecurity, also all play a critical role in AI.” Pinpointing when the shift occurs may be a fool’s errand. Likewise, there’s burden on today’s big AI spenders to show their elevated levels of spending are bearing fruit. Both points underscore the potential benefits of QQQI as a more restrained approach to tech investing. “For investors, the key will be identifying the transition from the engine of AI infrastructure to the companies capable of converting this technological capacity into sustainable margin expansion and corporate profit growth,” concluded BNP Paribas.
