The $15 Billion Club: Active Income Strategies

Two popular ETFs crossed the $15 billion in assets mark last week. The JPMorgan Core Plus Bond ETF (JCPB ) and the NEOS Nasdaq 100 High Income ETF (QQQI A). While these funds own different securities, their parallel success highlights a major trend in 2026. Investors are leaning into active ETFs to capture income across both bond and equity sleeves.Key Takeaways: Active ETFs gathered a record $576 billion of new money through the first nine months of 2026. This represented 39% of flows. JCPB is a strong example of an active fixed income ETF that manages $15 billion. The $15 billion QQQI has gathered $7.0 billion year to date through September, as investors turn to alternative equity income strategies. Comparing the $15 Billion HeavyweightsDespite sharing an asset milestone, JCPB and QQQI serve distinct roles in portfolio construction. JCPB represents an active core-plus fixed income approach. The fund builds a solid foundation in investment-grade rated debt while making tactical allocations to higher-yielding credit sectors to boost yield. As of September 2026, JCPB added $6.7 billion for the year and sports a 5.3% 30-day SEC yield. In contrast, QQQI is an active derivative equity income strategy. The fund holds equities benchmarked to the Nasdaq-100 while deploying a tax-efficient call option spread strategy. QQQI pulled in $7 billion in the first nine months of 2026 alone, driven in large part by its compelling 14% distribution rate. In August, Goldman Sachs announced acquisition plans to add QQQI and the rest of the NEOS Investments ETF suite.$15 Billion Active Income ETFsThe Active ETF SurgeThe rapid accumulation of assets in JCPB and QQQI reflects broader industry momentum. Active equity ETFs gathered $338 billion, representing 36% of total equity flows year to date through September 2026. Derivative equity income ETFs were key to the momentum, pulling in $52 billion. Investors embraced options overlay products like QQQI and the JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPQ A+). On the fixed income side, active strategies pulled in $176 billion through the first nine months of 2026, representing 38% of all fixed income flows. The active core-plus category was a key contributor with $27 billion in net inflows, where JCPB and established peers like the PIMCO Active Bond ETF (BOND B) saw robust demand. Overall, active ETFs have gathered a record $576 billion of new money through the first nine months of 2026. This represented 39% of flows. The two $15 billion funds demonstrate how there has been more than one successful approach to offering an active ETF. For more news, information, and analysis, visit the Equity ETF Content Hub.
