Newcomer Growth ETF RKSG Beats S&P 500 in Last 6 Months

The ETF ecosystem grows and evolves with each passing day. New funds emerge that leverage the ETF wrapper to package intriguing strategies or track seasoned, respected indices. The Ruk Strategic Growth ETF (RKSG), tracking an index with decades of experience, launched as an ETF this year. Already, since that launch, it’s put up some solid outperformance compared to the S&P 500 at a time when investors are looking to refresh portfolios.Key Takeaways: A shifting ETF landscape includes new launches drawing attention like growth ETF RKSG. The fund has beaten the S&P 500 in recent periods, outperforming over one- and six-month time frames. RKSG includes names like MRK and LMT in its top 10, which are not present in the same 10 in the S&P. RKSG charges a 50 basis point fee to track the RUK Strategic Growth Index, having launched in April. That index offers a rules-based approach to U.S. large-caps, targeting growth-oriented opportunities. The index adds valuation and risk controls to that approach, evaluating firms for metrics like asset growth, stock momentum, sales trends, and profitability. That index then ranks equities, investing across multiple sectors with a goal of reducing overall turnover. It also adds limits where needed to address concentration. Together, that has seen the growth ETF perform admirably since launch. The strategy has returned 10% over the six months, compared to 9.7% for the S&P 500. That gap has grown in the last month. RKSG has returned 1.3% in that time, while the S&P 500 has fallen 0.2%. What sets the two apart? RKSG’s strategy has produced a deeper focus on market leaders. Nvidia (NVDA) has a higher weight in RKSG than in the S&P 500, while the same is true of Alphabet (GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL). What’s more, RKSG has a few names that do not appear in the S&P 500’s Top Ten. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Lockheed Martin (LMT), and Merck (MRK) all appear in RKSG’s top 10. MRK has returned 39%, LMT has returned 10%, and JNJ has returned 23% on a YTD basis.
