SS&C ALPS Advisors Rings NYSE Opening Bell

SS&C ALPS Advisors marked a major milestone for its exchange-traded fund business last week, ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Speaking with NYSE Live following the ceremony, Leighton Spahr, president of SS&C ALPS Advisors, also marked the formalization of ALPS Funds as a distinct brand within the business. The ceremony also put a spotlight on three ETFs in its lineup: the ALPS Equal Sector Weight ETF (EQL B), the ALPS International Sector Dividend Dogs ETF (IDOG B-) and the ALPS Nautilus SMR, Nuclear & Technology ETF (SMRF), which target equal-weighted U.S. equities, international dividend stocks and nuclear energy and technology, respectively.Key Takeaways EQL spreads its allocation evenly across 11 economic sectors rather than weighting them by market capitalization. IDOG targets high-dividend-yielding companies across developed international markets. Launched in February, SMRF invests across the nuclear energy value chain alongside technology infrastructure. EQL: Rethinking U.S. Equity Exposure Through Equal Sector WeightingTraditional market-cap-weighted equity indexes can become increasingly concentrated in their largest companies and sectors. The ALPS Equal Sector Weight ETF (EQL B) offers a different approach by distributing its allocation evenly across 11 economic sectors rather than allowing the largest companies to dictate overall portfolio weights. The fund recently transitioned its underlying benchmark to the VettaFi Modelist Equal Weight Sector 500 Index (VFES500). As of October 29, 2026, EQL had returned 14.15% over the previous year and 13.18% year-to-date. The fund had approximately $789.7 million in assets under management and an expense ratio of 0.19%.IDOG: International Value and Dividend IncomeWhile U.S. megacap stocks have dominated much of the market’s attention, international equities offer investors another avenue for diversification. The ALPS International Sector Dividend Dogs ETF (IDOG B-) applies a disciplined Dogs of the Dow-style methodology to developed international markets outside the U.S. The strategy selects five of the highest-dividend-yielding companies in each of 10 developed-market sectors and equally weights the resulting portfolio. This sector-based approach provides exposure to dividend-paying companies across a range of industries rather than concentrating exclusively on traditionally high-yielding sectors. As of October 29, 2026, IDOG had returned 23.38% over the previous year and 15.54% YTD. The fund had approximately $564 million in AUM and an expense ratio of 0.50%. Launched on February 18, 2026, the fund targets companies involved in nuclear energy development, uranium production, utilities and supporting technology infrastructure. This broader approach reflects the multiple layers of investment required to support the expansion of nuclear energy. SMRF had approximately $15.5 million in AUM as of late October 2026 and carries an expense ratio of 0.65%.Expanding Strategic Exposure Beyond Market-Cap WeightingAs market leadership, income opportunities and emerging investment themes continue to evolve, investors are increasingly exploring strategies that move beyond traditional market-cap-weighted approaches. “ALPS offers a wide range of well constructed, compelling index based ETFs. It has been great to see investors learn more about them,” said Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at TMX VettaFi. S&C ALPS Fund manages over $40 billion in AUM and has 26 U.S listed ETFs.
