Add More Income to Fixed Income With BNDI

There’s a two-fold silver lining in the 2026 bond market. First, while inflation is high and yields are elevated, broader bond market performance isn’t nearly as bad this year as it was in 2022, when soaring inflation forced the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates seven times. Second, today’s high yields confirm the income is back in fixed income. For investors that want a little bit more bond income, the NEOS Enhanced Income Aggregate Bond ETF (BNDI ) is an ETF to consider.BNDI, which turned four years old in August, employs a unique approach when it comes to juicing bonds’ income proposition. The fund holds two major aggregate bond ETFs and writes S&P 500 options to boost its income proposition. BNDI’s enhanced income posture highlights the ETF’s utility in the current climate. “Income is another key difference between 2026 and 2022. Bond yields at the start of 2022 were barely above 2%. Going into this year, the Morningstar US Core Bond Index yielded north of 4%. That income return has helped offset bonds’ price declines,” noted Morningstar’s Dan Lefkovitz.Betting on BNDI BenefitsBNDI offers advisors and investors an array of benefits. For starters, the ETF’s methodology is approachable to a broad audience. After all, plenty of investors are familiar with aggregate bond ETFs. Those products, including the duo held by BNDI, are heavy on government bonds, indicating that yields are high today. That could set the stage for success for long-term investors. The other advantage of BNDI’s exposure to plain vanilla broad bond ETFs is that, due to those funds’ heavy allocations to U.S. government debt, credit risk isn’t a major concern for end users. That’s an advantage to consider at a time when bond market punishment isn’t being levied uniformly. “The same cannot be said of high-yield bonds and emerging-market debt, two other asset classes that carry significant credit risk. Both have lost less than the core bond index so far in 2026 thanks to income return,” added Lefkovitz. And with rates high today, that may be a sign that the trajectory, particularly after next year, is to the downside, implying that bonds will be the better bet than cash, because the former have upside potential. On the other hand, rates could climb higher, which could position BNDI as a protective strategy due to its S&P 500 options overlay. “Bond investors may be wondering whether rates could continue to rise. They certainly could. As of late October, the bond market is pricing in a higher short-term federal-funds rate. Inflation, the national debt, and AI spending pressures are all exerting upward pressure on yields,” concluded Lefkovitz.
