T. Rowe Price Global Distro Head Talks Active ETFs on Bloomberg

The active ETF universe grows week by week, with active ETF launches a key driver of overall ETF growth. Firms like T. Rowe Price have leaned heavily into the active ETF race, with funds ranging from equities to fixed income, and plenty of others in between. T. Rowe Price Head of Global Distribution Dee Sawyer recently answered questions about the firm and its fund suite during an appearance on Bloomberg.Key Takeaways: Active ETFs have become a big part of the overall ETF landscape, with T. Rowe Price a notable player therein. The firm’s global head of distribution appeared on Bloomberg and spoke about recent acquisitions and overall approach. Sawyer also spoke to how T. Rowe Price uses AI and augments human work. Hosted by Romaine Bostick, the discussion focused on how T. Rowe Price has expanded past its historical focus on mutual funds. Sawyer explained that, as with other asset managers, the goal is to deliver for clients. For T. Rowe, that includes active ETFs and other tools in the firm’s belt. “We’ve seen really strong flows in fixed income and our multi-asset solutions,” Sawyer said. “You can think about model portfolios or SMAs or active ETFs or bespoke solutions… We believe we have the opportunity to continue to provide active management, but with a stronger value proposition for the future.” As ever, she noted, the firm’s approach emphasizes its “unique ability to drive better outcomes.” That includes active ETFs, she said. In response to a question from Bostick about the F/m acquisition, Sawyer emphasized T. Rowe’s emphasis on growth. “We are a $1.8 trillion asset manager, we have 16 offices around the globe. We operate in 61 countries…we have global scale, but you have to deliver that in local solutions,” she said. “The FM acquisition, we think that’s another engine of growth for us. It’s around liquidity, cash management, adding to our fixed income capabilities that are already really strong.” Bostick asked about the firm’s partnership with Goldman Sachs, focused on private markets, and how that matched with investor interest. Sawyer pointed to interval funds as examples of client demand for private markets exposure. While some clients are very interested, others are in a wait and see mindset, she explained. Per Sawyer, the goal is not to replace analysts but augment their capabilities. “We believe in human expertise,” Sawyer said. “You can’t replace human expertise, judgment and client relationships with AI. We think AI helps us get faster. It helps you provide more relevant insights. It helps a PM analyze information…in seconds versus days. And so there’s something really powerful about that.” The firm recently launched the T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETP (TKNZ), offering exposure to multiple spot crypto sources. As active ETFs grow in popularity, T. Rowe Price will likely continue to figure prominently in that space. For more news, information, and analysis, visit our Active ETF Content Hub.
