Post-Election Commodities Setup Could Bode Well for This ETF

Heading into Election Day, investors had the jitters. That skittishness was applied to a variety of asset classes, including commodities. With the 2026 midterm election now in the rearview mirror, market participants can get down to the business of assessing how the results could affect the commodities complex. Assessing and attaining certainty are different things. This would imply that broad approaches to commodities, such as the USCF SummerHaven Dynamic Commodity Strategy No K-1 Fund (SDCI A), may be the smart plays on this asset class in the months ahead. Even with a small dip on Election Day, SDCI was up nearly 37% year to date, as voters headed to the polls on Tuesday. This performance is a testament to the ETF’s diversity. Actively managed, SDCI provides exposure to more than a dozen commodities — a potentially favorable trait as investors attempt to sort out how U.S. election results could affect commodity prices.Energy, Metals in the SpotlightEnergy prices, which were top of mind for voters, are likely to remain in focus following Election Day. That’s pertinent to investors considering SDCI, because the ETF features exposure to several energy futures contracts. Of note, the prevailing wisdom entering Election Day was that the U.S. would not launch new military strikes against Iran following the midterm election. President Trump said as much, but the situation may be fluid. “What is clear, though, is that strong signals of progress in peace talks would mean more downside for prices. The market still has a large risk premium baked in, particularly given the strong oil flows from the Persian Gulf,” according to ING Economic and Financial Analysis. SDCI’s flexibility is also appealing, because investors can benefit from what’s not included in the fund. For now, gold isn’t part of the fund’s roster. That’s potentially positive, with interest rates unlikely to fall anytime soon and the dollar expected to remain strong. “The near-term outlook remains challenging amid expectations for higher rates and a stronger dollar, limiting the scope for a more sustained recovery,” added ING. There’s good news. If gold shows signs of life on concerns of a change of congressional control leading to more government spending and further monetary debasement, SDCI’s active management can respond to that shift.
