Leopards don’t change their spots, but sometimes, an ETF does. And those alterations can benefit investors. That’s true with international developed market equity funds. Take the case of the WisdomTree True Developed International Fund (DOL B). This ETF turned 20 years old in June and got a refresh a year ago.It tracks the WisdomTree True Developed International Index. That index saw a revamp after living its life as the WisdomTree International LargeCap Dividend Index. Post-change results have been impressive. Since DOL was reborn in late October 2025, the ETF returned 19.8% compared to 12.2% for the MSCI EAFE Index. Even better is the fact that over those 12 months, the WisdomTree ETF’s annualized volatility was only slightly higher than the EAFE gauge. That confirms the ETF enjoyed the superior risk-adjusted stance.DOL Delivering on 'True'DOL’s evolution isn’t change for the sake of change. Rather, the ETF is living up to its billing as “true” representation of developed markets. It does so by including exposure to Poland, South Korea, and Taiwan equities. Some or all three of those countries are classified as emerging markets by some of the major index providers. “The inclusion of Korea, Poland and Taiwan recognizes how each has built stronger institutions, achieved higher income levels and developed more mature financial systems. Korea and Taiwan now have GDP per capita levels similar to countries like Spain and [Japan. Poland] continues to close the gap with Western Europe—well above traditional emerging-market thresholds,” according to WisdomTree. Taiwan and South Korea combine for about 9% of DOL’s geographic exposure. That’s meaningful relative to old guard developed-market ETFs. That’s because many of those funds feature no or limited exposure to those countries. Due to its South Korea/Taiwan exposure, DOL has more AI ties than MSCI EAFE-tracking competitors. Confirming the ETF’s AI relevance, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) is DOL’s largest holding. And the fund’s technology exposure is 115 basis points more than what’s in the MSCI EAFE Index.Bottom LineMore advisors and investors are demanding the union of international equity and technology exposure. So DOL may be poised to grow and thrive over the long term. “With a modernized country framework and the same dividend-focused discipline, the WisdomTree True Developed International Index offers a timely way to capture this new phase of global market leadership,” added WisdomTree.
